Are you looking to sell your home soon but think winter is a bad time to list? It’s conventional wisdom that the housing market slows down during the colder months, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a great deal during this time of year. To help you get the best deal possible, I’m sharing some of my best tips to make your home feel cozy and inviting to buyers this winter season:

First impressions matter in real estate, and cozy winter decorations are exactly what some buyers are looking for. Put some effort into making your home as attractive as possible from the street; more buyers will want to take a look at your house if it looks inviting from the outside.

It’s okay to put up some holiday decorations, but don’t go overboard. A well-decorated Christmas tree and a tasteful poinsettia might be all you need to get buyers in the holiday spirit.

Make sure your home is well-lit; things get darker in the winter, so abundant lighting will help show off the best features of your house. On a similar note, make sure your home isn’t overcrowded with furniture or clutter. Try to help your buyers imagine what the property could be once it’s theirs.

Finally, I recommend putting out a photo album of your home from different months. It can be difficult to imagine how beautiful your property can be during the middle of summer when it’s cold outside, so leave out pictures to spark buyers’ imaginations.

I understand why you might be wary about selling during the winter, but if you put in the right effort, your home can stand out during a time when there isn’t much competition.
